Signature (Seal) :
TAKAHASHI DEISHU
(1835-1903) was a samurai and swordsman from the last days of the Tokugawa shogunate to the Meiji period. He was the brother-in-law of Yamaoka Tesshu (1836-1888). After the battle of Toba and Fushimi, he guarded Tokugawa Yoshinobu (1837-1913), the 15th and last shogun of the Tokugawa shogunate. He is called the "Bakumatu San Shu" together with Yamaoka Tesshu and Katsu Kaishu.
