Description

You're bidding on an antique Japanese silk painting measuring 31 inches by 48 inches mounted behind glass in a black lacquered frame.
In assessing the value of this piece we contacting a number art historians who agreed that this piece is most likely from the 19th century.
This belief was arrived at based on the colors and subject matter displayed in the painting.
The signature/seal shown in the lower left hand corner gives the artist's name as "Calm Waters" who (again based on subject matter) may have been a student of renowned artist/master
Kawanabe Kyōsai (1831-1889).
The frame is still sturdy, however the black lacquer does show signs of age and sun damage.
According to family lore, this painting was purchased by our grandfather when he was in Japan as a young man. Over the years I've become quite attached to this piece but sadly find myself now in a position of financial need.
