In the early 1960s; automotive designers were looking away from the showy design of the '50s and focusing on designs that were minimalist in style but still striking in character. The 1961 Galaxie almost totally lost the tail fins of its predecessor; maintaining only small blade-like fins that served as the cap of the significant round 'pie plate' tail lamps. Performance was something Ford began to tout with the '60s Galaxie; offering several engine options pushing significant horsepower.
